What has actually been promised
Multiverse's Early Access notes say the game is expected to stay in Early Access for approximately two years, and that co-op is one of the major features they hope to develop during that window. Developer comments have described it as 4-player co-op, where other commanders join your expedition with their own units and equipment, arriving closer to the 1.0 release.
Practical reading: if co-op is the reason you would buy, wait. Two years of Early Access with co-op slated "closer to full release" is not a purchase you make this month.
Why a game that was once an MMO ships single-player
Pax Autocratica used to be Earth From Another Sun — an open-world MMO shooter with a Solana-based economy. The studio's stated reasoning for dropping it: an MMO sandbox brought server load, lag and grind that did not work financially or as a game. The rebuild removed guilds, PvP, the in-game token economy, and the server dependency, in exchange for offline play and a much tighter design.
That history matters here because it explains the shape of the promise. Co-op is being added back to a game built to run without a server, not carved out of one that already had multiplayer.
Frequently asked
Can you play Pax Autocratica with friends?
Not in the current build. Steam lists the game as Single-player only, with no multiplayer or co-op categories. Multiverse has stated co-op is a target for the Early Access period.
How many players will co-op support?
Developer statements point to 4-player co-op, where other commanders join your combat expeditions with their own units and equipment. No date has been given.
Will co-op cover the colony too, or only combat?
What has been described is co-op in combat — other commanders joining you on the battlefield. Nothing has been published about shared colony management.
Wasn’t this game an MMO?
Earth From Another Sun, the game’s previous incarnation, was pitched as an open-world MMO shooter. That design was dropped along with the guilds, PvP and the token economy when it became Pax Autocratica.
Does it have PvP?
No. PvP was removed during the pivot away from the MMO design and is not on the published Early Access plan.
