Where the saves are

Not in the Steam install directory, which is where most people look first. The game stores save data under your Windows local application data folder.

To get there: press Win+R, or click the Explorer address bar, and enter:

%LOCALAPPDATA%

Then open the folder named for the game. Copy that whole folder to back it up.

The Steam Cloud conflict, and how to not lose a week

Steam Cloud is listed as a supported feature. The failure mode is specific and avoidable:

1. You play offline — no internet, Steam in offline mode, whatever the reason.
2. Your local save advances. The cloud copy does not.
3. You come back online. Steam sees a mismatch and asks which version to use.
4. You click through it without reading, and the cloud copy — your older save — wins.

If you routinely play offline, the safest habit is: back up the local folder before going online.

Moving a save to another PC

1. Copy the game folder from %LOCALAPPDATA% on the source machine.
2. Install the game on the target machine and launch it once, so it creates its own folder structure.
3. Close the game fully.
4. Replace the target folder's contents with your copy.
5. Launch, and if Steam offers a conflict dialog, pick the version matching what you just copied.
