Expeditions: what leaving costs you
The expedition screen shows you two meters. Only one of them is the reward. The other one is your exit signal, and reading it late is how good runs turn into bad weeks.

The real cost of leaving
The trade the game is actually asking you to make is not "risk versus loot". It is bodies here versus bodies there. Every citizen on an expedition stops working in the colony until they return, and the colony does not pause.
Which means the question "who do I take" is answered at home, not on the star map:
- List the chains that must not stop: food (Greenhouse/Animal Farm → Kitchen), and whatever is currently mid-construction.
- Remove those people from the candidate pool entirely.
- Take from what is left — biasing toward citizens whose colony rates are poor and whose combat traits are good.
Reading the expedition screen
Expeditions open on a star map of the Tyris System, starting in Elysia. Zones are named and contain named sites with distances — the observed run was Sector I: Scourgeborn Control Zone, containing The Scourgeborn Arena.
| Element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Expedition Progress | Fills toward 100%. This is your objective completion and your reward driver. |
| Enemy Strength | Rises alongside progress. This is the pressure meter — your reason to leave. |
| Core Fragments counter | Shows collected out of 12 slots. |
| End Current Expedition | Deliberate exit. Not a failure state. |
Objectives are explicit and stack, e.g.:
Defeat Auryto OverlordGain Auryto Sector Expedition Progress: 0/100%Defeat Sattleri Sacred Altar: 0/1
On the ground
Combat is first-person and it escalates from skirmishes into mechanised battles with infantry, tanks and mechs. The enemy vocabulary includes elites, bosses and Sector Overlords — and Overlords are explicitly immune to some effects that work on everything else. The Drone EMP core says so directly: it disables elite and boss abilities for 6 seconds, and "Sector Overlords are immune to this effect".
You are not alone. Squad orders are Move, Attack and Follow Me, and the game is explicit that troops can be used as expendable shields. That is a stated design intent, not an exploit.
When to end a run
Three honest exit triggers:
- Prison capacity is full. Further captures become Pending Imprisonment — dead weight. Why that matters.
- Enemy Strength has outpaced your core build. Twelve slots is the whole run budget; if your build did not come together, more time does not fix it.
- Something at home is degrading. Alerts do not wait for you to finish.
Frequently asked
How many soldiers should I take on an expedition?
As few as will survive it. Everyone you take stops working at home for the whole duration, so the correct number is set by your production chains, not by the fight.
What is Enemy Strength?
A meter on the expedition screen that rises alongside Expedition Progress. It is the pressure side of the risk-reward trade — the reason to end a run rather than push one more objective.
Where do expeditions take place?
The Tyris System. The first sector is Elysia; the observed zone was Sector I: Scourgeborn Control Zone, containing a named site called The Scourgeborn Arena.
Can I end an expedition early?
Yes. “End Current Expedition” is an explicit option on the expedition screen. Using it deliberately is a skill.
